*This special bike tour is only available in February*
BORED of the Chocolate-verses-flowers debate? This year there’s a new Valentine’s Day decision:
CRUISER or TANDEM!
Join us for a memorable journey through some of Albuquerque’s most romantic locations, traditions, and scenery. Ride our bikes or bring your own; either way, VeloTines will spark your imagination and romance!
ABOUT THE TOURS:
Now in its sixth season, VeloTines is a unique bike tour designed for couples and singles that travels to a selection of stunning locations in the Rio Grande Valley. Participants will enjoy spectacular landscapes, site tours, local wine and treats, unique Valentine’s folklore, and New Mexican culture in a casual, intimate setting. Couples can mount up on Routes’ signature, yellow-tire cruisers or choose to ride a tandem (bike built for two) for the ultimate Valentine’s experience.
This year Routes is pleased to present VeloTines in collaboration with four Signature Partners: Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm, Casa Rondeña Winery, Golden Crown Panadaria and a Q Chocolate Cafe.
Your VeloTines tour travels through historic Old Town and into the cottonwood forests (Bosque) along the Rio Grande to the charming Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, an area where large numbers of migratory birds can be observed wintering in pastures and fields. The experience includes a full wine tasting and a grounds tour of Casa Rondeña; a ride through the beautiful lavender fields, gardens, and historic grounds at Los Poblanos; a special gift package from Los Poblanos including artisan truffles and discounts good toward field-to-fork dining; and locally-made treats and gifts.
Set amongst 25 acres of lavender fields and lush gardens, the award-winning Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm was recently named one of Fodor’s ‘Top 100 Hotels in the World’, and is one of the most prestigious historic properties in the Southwest. Designed in 1932 by famed architect John Gaw Meem, the “Father of Santa Fe Style,” the buildings feature agricultural-themed artwork by important New Mexico artists of the period. The grounds are also home to a wide range of animals, including several stunning peacocks. Gear up for your ride back to Routes with locally-made gelato (available for purchase at the Farm Shop).
Casa Rondeña Winery was lovingly established in late 1995 as a family undertaking, with the first plantings in 1990 at the hands of vintner John Calvin and his two young sons, Ross and Clayton. The Tasting Room opened in August 1997, and a winery building with a striking Tricentennial bell tower (pictured) was completed in Autumn 2004. A new barrel aging and storage facility (including the popular ‘Founder’s Rotunda’) was added in 2008 in order to expand production capacity and to accommodate special events for winery club members and special guests. In 2010, Mr. & Mrs. Calvin moved out of the home they had built on the property and turned it into the luxurious ‘1629 Club’, a private facility / area available for use by winery club members. Today Casa Rondeña is Albuquerque’s most distinguished and picturesque winery & vineyard, and has been honored with numerous local, national, and international awards.
The entire tour will be approximately 4 hours in length and experienced from the comfortable seat of our signature cruiser bicycles (tandems, hybrids, and mountain bikes available upon request). Upon returning to Routes, all guests will enjoy locally-made treats and gifts.
VeloTines is the first professionally-led Valentine’s bicycle tour in Albuquerque, and puts a fresh spin on romantic traditions by wheel. The Albuquerque climate is conducive to cycling year-round, and February is graced with sunny weather, minimal breezes, stunning sunsets, and pleasant daytime temperatures.
